Our Burkes Hill Riesling is a story of both a special site and a special friendship.
The picturesque Burkes Hill vineyard sits just outside the township of Eden Valley, in the Barossa high country. A largely dry-grown vineyard on a gentle East facing slope, it produces Riesling of exceptional aromatic perfume and elegance, albeit in very small quantities.
As important as the vineyard itself is the mateship between our founder, Rob Gibson, and legendary winemaker, Andrew Wigan. Between the two, they share over 80 years of winemaking experience in the Barossa. Rob is a renowned for his award-winning red wines, whereas Andrew, a specialist white wine maker, holds a particular pedigree in fine Riesling.
Fruit grown from Burkes Hill has been entrusted to Andrew each year since 2017, with the mission to capture the ultra-aromatic citrus, orange blossom and bath salt qualities in bottle. And, it's fair to say that we couldn't be more pleased with the results.
The 2024 Burkes Hill Riesling boasts lifted fragrances of grapefruit, orange blossom, banana and bath salts. The palate shows great purity of fruit with zesty flavours of lemon and lime, balanced by a long and mineral acid backbone, keeping the wine fresh and providing a long finish.
This is a style that is also capable of long-term ageing. Enjoy a bottle of our Gibson Burkes Hill Riesling with a crispy skin barramundi fillet or your favourite seafood.
